It's time to go back to school! On Tuesday we will begin our second year of our new Leadership Academy. We have seen the positive impact this program has had on inner-city youth, and Quinn* is just one example.
Quinn is a fourth grader in The Leadership Academy. He grew up in the Tamarind community and is one of three children in a single parent household. Last year, our Director of Discipline spent a lot of time with Quinn because of his anger. His temper would frequently deteriorate into fits of rage that made him completely uncontrollable.
The great news is that by the end of the school year, and after a lot of individual time with our Director of Discipline, Quinn showed a significant improvement in his ability to control his emotions. He now recognizes that his anger is a problem and is able to display self-control by talking about his frustrations when they arise.
Because of the current economic conditions that we are all facing, this year we are sad to say that we have to cut kids from our program. Initial projections say we will have to cut 20 kids. We are struggling with this news, because this is not just about numbers. The reality is that 20 inner-city kids will not have the opportunity to receive tutoring, reading assistance, arts exposure, spiritual enrichment, and mentoring this year!
In order to avoid removing children from our program, we need your help with our Back to School Campaign. We need sponsors for 20 kids in our program by September 30th in order to maintain our current enrollment of 120 students.
Please pray about how you can help keep our kids in this critical program. You can make a secure donation online. Thank you for your faithful support, and for helping us make an impact in the lives of kids like Quinn!
